Reverend C. Glenn Taylor became impassioned for Christ when he was just a boy attending the local Methodist Church at Emory Grove. He was inspired by the great ministers who pastored the church and by the legendary preachers who came through Emory Grove as visiting ministers, especially at the annual camp meeting celebrations. Reverend Taylor began his public ministry in 1974 when he earned his Lay Speaker’s Certificate in the United Methodist Church under the pastorship of Rev. Gloyd Alice. He later carried out his ministry as a part of an organized group of laypersons – The Laymen for Christ. The group was comprised of both men and women on fire for the Lord. The Laymen for Christ met in different homes each week to study the bible, to learn from one another and to minister to others. Many of the members were also certified lay speakers in the United Methodist Church. Reverend Taylor had previously organized his family into a singing ministry with the creation of the Taylor Family Singers.
As a lay speaker, Rev. Taylor would go to various churches when called upon to speak. He would substitute for vacationing or otherwise absent pastors. He had annual speaking engagements for the vacationing pastors at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and Poplar Grove Baptist Church. Reverend Taylor took his calling very seriously, he believed, as did Joshua, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” As a part of this ministry, Reverend Taylor, along with his wife and children would go to hospitals, nursing homes, and anywhere else he was needed to deliver the message of salvation. He continues to minister to the sick, shut-in and bereaved, calling on ministers, friends and family to aide in this ministry.
In April 1984, Reverend Taylor was licensed as a Baptist Minister through the Shekinah Baptist Mission and the LeDetroit Baptist Church. In December 1989, Reverend Taylor was ordained with full rights at Jerusalem Baptist Church. After serving many years as an Associate Minister and Interim Pastor, Reverend Taylor was installed as Pastor at Jerusalem in 1996. He recently celebrated 23 years of shepherding, nurturing, strengthening and loving the Jerusalem Baptist Church family.
Reverend Taylor is married to Geraldine Taylor, his wife of 58 years, who has been a co-laborer in his ministry. From this union are 3 children, 2 daughters-in-law, 1 son-in-law, 7 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren who support and strengthen his ministry.
